As the first oil painting created in this series, it holds a special place for me. An artist who’s accustomed to working with gouache, the challenge for me was to prevent the different colors from blending into each other. But oils created special opportunities. I could create a sense of depth by thickly applying paint using the impasto technique. Now I could see the Boatman in 3D! With this final painting, I also want to return to the beginning. I hope this exhibition may have awakened a new awareness in your memory—just like it did for me. As Walter pointed out, the Boatman is actually me. I realized this a little late—sometimes our minds play tricks on us. Perhaps the Boatman was a silent scream inside me. This artistic journey became a journey of self-expression. As the poet Orhan Veli explained earlier—everything happened suddenly.
